The Biting Continues

When I picked Emory up from daycare on Friday Ms. Betty informed me that Emory had to go to time out for biting a little boy. I felt horrible for the little boy she bit, but Ms. Betty assured me he was fine and that it was through his clothes. Apparently she took a chunk out of his toosh. Emory and I had a long "talk" all the way home. I think she knows she is not suppose to bite, but when she is in the moment of not getting her way, biting is the only way she thinks she can express her frustration. She will bite anything too, chairs, bar stools, my arms, it does not matter. I just hope this phase passes soon.
Our weekend was very low key, it consisted of playing, eating, napping, and throwing temper tantrums when Emory did not get her way. It amazes me how such a sweet little girl can turn into a biting, hitting, Noing little girl in a matter of seconds! That's right, Emory loves to tell us NO. Her other favorite is MINE!
Playing with her toys!
Taking a rest on Rocket Ship.
Putting her puzzle together.
Throwing a fit. I can't remember why.
Eating ice cream, which she LOVED!
Licking her fingers!
Using her spoon!
Making a silly face at me, when I told her to say cheese! She insisted on wearing this hat!
Trying to stay awake just before bed time!

Time

We recently experienced a loss in our family, Bradley’s grandmother passed away last Friday, and since her passing I have been thinking a lot about time. Time is a funny thing, sometimes you have too much and sometimes too little. Each month I find myself saying, I can’t believe Emory is … old, or it seems like just yesterday she was ….” I am constantly trying to capture time through pictures or video, because I find myself wanting to hold on to that moment, afraid I won’t be able to remember it later. It is that same reason I write this blog. This morning I realized I had not touched the blog this week, then that I had not even taken one picture of Emory since her turning 17 months last Tuesday. So with all my pondering about time this week, I managed to forget to capture it through photos and words. So here is a picture of Emory from this time last year.

17 Months Old

Emory turned 17 months old yesterday, June 15, 2010, which I find hard to believe. It seems like only yesterday she was learning to crawl. Here is what she has been up to!

-She is still wearing size 12 month clothes, a size 4 shoe, and size 3 diaper.
-She is using a fork and spoon to eat with and is actually able to get food in her mouth when using them!
-She loves to read, play outside, and get her way!
-She has learned the art of pitching a fit, and throws them whenever she does not get her way.
-She wants to do everything by herself and her new favorite word is MINE!
-She gives the best hugs, my favorite is the arms outstretched running full speed at you hug.
-She loves to go shopping and explore new things.
-She is getting better at brushing her teeth, but still prefers to just suck all the toothpaste off.
-She is saying thank you more and more without prompting and is working on please.
Emory put on her pj's all by herself. Even though she put the shirt on wrong, it was a proud moment nonetheless!
She also insists on putting on her shoes!
This is what Emory shoe looks like when she "puts it on." Then she gets mad when it falls off!

Emory's New Tutu

Saturday morning Emory and I went to the Blueberry Festival downtown. I thought that by going at 9:30 we would not be too terribly miserable. I was wrong and by 10:30 we were headed home. Lets just say 100 % humidity and ninety degree weather do not mix, regardless of the time of day! Anyway while we were there Emory fell in love with a booth full of tutu's for sale. She pointed at them and gave a loud WOW that made the lady selling them laugh. She oohed and aahed over them with the biggest smile on her face. We picked out a darling little white tutu with light pink little flowers sewn in. Later that day she twirled and twirled in her tutu until she got dizzy and fell down. Then she twirled some more! She insisted on not wearing her shirt with her tutu, I guess she instinctively knew that it did not match! I am going to have to find a light pink onesie or leotard for her to wear it with.

Here she is modeling her tutu!
She decided to wear it as a dress!
Then she marched into her room, opened her closet door, and yelled bow! (Her bow board is on the back of her closet door) This is the one she picked out. It is huge, but she HAD to wear it!
She then played in her tutu.
Looked out the window in her tutu!
Watched TV with Dot in her tutu.....
and just relaxed in her tutu!
Needless to say Emory loved her new tutu! She played in it for a long time before finally taking it off.

A Mind of Her Own

Emory seems to have turned into a little girl over night. She seems to need less help with doing things, which I find both exciting and sad. For instance she has learned how to put on her own socks. After her bath the other night I handed Emory her pj's and socks (she likes to try and put her pajama bottoms on while I fill her humidifier with water) and she put her socks on all by herself. She also has a mind of her own, which I knew before she was born, and is wanting to do things by herself more and more and of course she HAS to do them HER way.
Before bedtime the other night she decided that she needed to read her book all by herself. I had already read several books to her, when she decided that she needed to get down off my lap and take a book over to her chair and read it.
Then another night she decided that she needed to wear her cowboy boots before bed. Side Note: Yes this is the same pair of pjs and yes she has more than one pair!
She is also very particular about where things go and does not like it when something is not in its place. The other morning she noticed that a thing of biscuits had fallen over on its side in the fridge (I keep them in the door) and went running towards the fridge yelling uh oh, uh oh. Then proceeded to stand them back up and close the refrigerator door. She is still throwing ear piercing temper tantrums when she does not get her way and still biting. It does not matter what either, she bites whatever is by her when she gets mad. We are still working on this! I still can't believe she will be 17 months old next week and how much she has changed since turning 1.

The Many Faces of Emory Grace

I always have my camera near by because you never know what Emory is going to do next. I have also started taking random snaps in an effort to capture her silly faces and expressions. Here are a few from the last few days.
Emory eating an ice cream sandwich with a spoon. She did not like the ice cream getting on her hands!
Playing chase with Daddy.
I am not sure what this was about.
She was waiting to try her very first ice cream sandwich. She liked it until the ice cream started to melt.
Just being goofy!
Playing with her train.
She was watching something on TV and apparently it was fascinating!
This one cracked me up!

The Terrible Two's Have Arrived

Monday afternoon I went in to check on Emory who had been playing in her room or so I thought.
This is where I found her. As you can see she had emptied her bottom drawer and was sitting in it. So after I told her NO she could not sit in her drawer and shut it, she proceeded to try and put on every pair of bloomers she owns. After SEVERAL attempts to wear every single pair of her bloomers failed, she decided she would like to sit in her drawer again.
That is when it happened.... my precious little girl turned into a biting, hitting, screaming terror child. Yes, we have a biter on our hands and I have 3 bruises on my arm to prove it! I am afraid the terrible two's have arrived early because when Emory does not get her way, WATCH OUT!
After a minute or so of this.........
My precious little girl returned. Thank goodness these little episodes are short, but we have to work on the biting.

Ooey Gooey Goodness

I love food, always have. I think about it often, crave things occasionally, and at times have dreamt about certain dishes, BUT I do not ever recall having kissed my food. Emory did just that this weekend when I gave her a semi-homemade chocolate chip & pecan cookie. I do not give her sweets very often and this apparently was a real treat!
Emory and her cookie.
Emory kissing her cookie.
Emory eating her cookie
Licking her fingers
Cleaning her hands. She is not a fan of dirty hands.
Ahhh, That was good!
Emory also loves cheese. Here she is eating a grilled cheese.
You notice she pulled the cheese out of the sandwich!

The Plastic Pool

We bought Emory a little plastic swimming pool this weekend and I realized in the past 30 years they have not changed much, but I loved playing in one growing up and figured Emory would too! So first thing Saturday morning I filled it up with water and put it in the sun to warm up. At first Emory was a little hesitant but then she started splashing and playing. She "swam" for about an hour before losing interest.
Here she is watching and waiting.
She decided her new pool was not so bad!
This little butterfly decided to join in the fun!
She had just poured water out of her bucket on herself!
What a MESS!
She loved climbing in and out of the pool.
This face cracked me up!
I think this blue plastic pool was a hit!
